US Rebar Imports in February This Year Fell 33.4 Percent

According to the data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC), US rebar imports in February this year fell 33.4 percent year on year to 66,950 metric tons, while a decrease of 36 percent was registered compared to January. Meanwhile, the total value of these imports amounted to $40.7 million, decreasing by 34.35 percent month on month and down 38.5 percent compared to February 2012.

In February, Turkey was the largest rebar exporter to the US market with 43,648 metric tons, followed by Mexico with 20,334 metric tons and by the Dominican Republic with 2,815 metric tons. On the other hand, in the January-February period of this year, US rebar imports totaled 171,624 metric tons, decreasing by 21.55 percent year on year, with 73.3 percent of imports from Turkey and 22 percent from Mexico.
