V12 Hy-Kers Powertrain for New F70 Is Launched by Ferrari

Italian luxury carmaker Ferrari has unveiled the V12 HY-KERS hybrid powertrain for its F70 at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show in China.

The new powertrain, being mated to a double-clutch transmission, will generate an output of 800hp, while one of the two electric motors will be mated to one of the clutches and the other electric motor will be placed in front of the engine.

Ferrari said that the two electric motors will further increase the output by 120hp, generating a total output of 920hp.

Its first electric motor will be employed as a generator, which will capture kinetic energy and deliver it to the lithium-ion battery pack, while the second will charge the auxiliary systems.

Ferrari will use carbon fibre and aluminium for the manufacturing the F70 hybrid to reduce its weight to 1,130kg.
