The September US mixed xylene contract price settled at $4.25/gallon ($1,287.75/mt), an increase of 33 cents ($99.99/mt) from the mark for August, industry sources said Tuesday.
The settlement was in line with market expectations, although some participants were thinking the contract price would settle even higher with spot prices currently above that mark.
Sources have attributed the increase in spot prices to tighter market supply.
Sources said they are anticipating limited supply availability throughout September and October because of producer turnarounds during these months.
Mixed xylene spot prices have been on an upward trend since being assessed at $3.83/gal FOB USG on June 28.
The August MX contract price settled 22 cents higher month on month at $3.92/gal, sources said.
US spot MX prices averaged $4.15/gal in August, according to Platts data.
US spot MX was last assessed at $4.33/gal FOB US Gulf Coast Friday.
