Osram to make the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo shine in energy-efficient LED light for the 2014 World Cup
As an expert in lighting large sports venues, Osram is equipping the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, which will host the opening match of the Football World Championships in 2014, with the latest in energy-efficient lighting technology. The highlight is the external façade, which will be transformed into the world's biggest LED stadium panel and will serve as an extra-large screen. "In São Paulo, Osram is once again proving its expertise when it comes to lighting for sports venues. We have not let ourselves be intimidated by FIFA's strict requirements – on the contrary: our high-tech lighting solutions exceed the specifications by far", commented Klaus-Günter Vennemann, CEO of the General Lighting division at Osram.
The European qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2014 have just begun and it is the clear aim of the German Football Association's team to finish the qualifying round as group winners. Osram is therefore ensuring optimal tournament conditions for the 2014 World Championships in Brazil and is equipping the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, which will host the opening match on 12 June 2014, with the most innovative stadium lighting. The Munich-based light manufacturer has already provided unforgettable footballing moments thanks to its unique light solutions at the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa and the UEFA European Championships 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.
High-tech lighting for TV pictures in HD quality
All components will be provided from one source – from the façade lighting to the internal lights and the floodlight system on the playing field. Through the installation of over 350 lights by subsidiary Siteco in combination with metal-halide lamps from Osram, the Munich-based light manufacturer is even exceeding the highest standards newly defined by FIFA regarding the quality of light on the playing field. "The modern lighting solution from Osram provides the latest sports pitch lighting and guarantees brilliant images in HD quality. Our products even offer 50 percent greater performance than the FIFA specifications prescribe", says Klaus-Günter Vennemann.
Stadium façade with superlative LED screen
The LED panel on the external façade of the arena in São Paulo will measure 170 m in length and 20 m in height and will be capable of displaying images, detailing scores and even playing videos. Around 840 LED lights with a total of 34,000 LEDs from Osram subsidiary Traxon will make it the largest LED stadium screen in the world. Inside the arena, Osram will also be fitting four additional high-definition screens from 30 m to 7.5 m with LEDs, which will display the current score or slow-motion shots.
Energy efficiency despite the highest level of brightness
The lights used in São Paulo will produce pitch lighting that at 5,000 lux is almost twice as intense as, for instance, that in Munich's Allianz Arena. At the same time, the energy-efficient technologies used will require considerably fewer individual points of light than with conventional lighting technology. This will not only help to save electricity costs, but will also reduce expenditure in terms of installation and maintenance.
