Wireless Will Lead IC Spending This Year Growing by 13.5% to $69.6 Billion,Says IHS

Wireless will lead IC spending this year growing by 13.5% to $69.6 billion, says IHS.

Of the other six major IC application areas, five will show growth of up to 6.5% and one will decline 1.7%.
 
Total semiconductor spending will rise 6.2% says the company.
 
Handsets, tablets, wireless infrastructure
 
The IC spend on handsets was $46.7bn, the IC spend on tablets was $10.5bn, and the IC spend on wireless infrastructure was $8.7bn.
 
Top OEMs (including their sub-contractors’ spend) spending on wireless chips will be Apple, Samsung, LG, Huawei, ZTE and Lenovo.
 
Top OEMs (including their sub-contractors’ spend) spending on wireless infrastructure will be Ericsson, Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Siemens Networks.
 
Key areas of R&D for wireless devices are improvements in display resolutions and improvements to sound quality.
 
The wireless infrastructure side has to tackle network congestion, power reliability, privacy and security.
 
Only Apple and Samsung make profits in the handset/tablet market, say analysts.
