Global packaging company Smurfit Kappa has opened a Bag-in-Box plant in Spain for about €28m that produces both taps and bags under one roof.
Also, the plant showcases the world's latest performing features in Bag-in-Box production. With its automated production lines, the plant is equipped to produce millions of taps and bags every month to meet growing demand in the region.
Bag-in-Box supplies flexible packaging solutions for liquid and semi-liquid products in the agro-food and industrial sectors which allow to preserve products for several months before opening the packs. It also helps in extending shelf life of edible products while meeting cost constraints and the new environment regulations.
Smurfit has opened seven such factories across the world. Smurfit Kappa Bag-in-Box is claimed to be the European leader for Bag-in-Box solutions and its Vitop tap is number one worldwide for wine taps.
Smurfit Kappa group president and COO Tony Smurfit said: "The opening of this new plant shows how Smurfit Kappa continuously strives to work with our customers to meet their needs. By investing in such an ultra-modern and high-performing facility, we can ensure a promising future for our customers in this growing market."
The company says that the opening of the new facility will help customers to understand the process of production and discover the company's solution in a showroom.
Smurfit Kappa general manager Pascual Martinez said: "This new plant is a big step up for Bag-in-Box activities both within our company and within the Mediterranean region. It couldn't have come at a better time, when the demand for top-class Bag-in-Box® packaging products from a reliable partner is getting bigger."
