SCAD Issued Its Latest Monthly Report on The Prices of Building Materials for The Month

Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD) issued its latest monthly report on the prices of building materials for the month of February 2012. The report presents an analysis of the movements in the prices of the various materials used in the construction industry in Abu Dhabi Emirate during February 2012. SCAD pointed that the BMP report, which is considered a key SCAD publication, covers the movement of monthly prices for building materials used in Abu Dhabi during February 2012 compared to January 2012, as well as to February of 2011. The dissemination of the report, which presents a wide range of price data, is intended to serve the needs of data users in the public and private sectors in research, planning and decision making in ways that support the construction sector, besides related and dependent sectors. // The statistics compiled in the reportshow a wide range of price movements highlighting the price groups that are of exceptional interest due to high price increases or decreases within the period. // Prices of building materials in February 2012 compared with January 2012 As SCAD s report reveals, the prices for a number of commodity groups of building materials showed changes during February 2012 compared with January 2012, with the largest rise recorded in the prices for "Employment"increasing by 10.5% as all items in this group registered price increases between 5.9% for "semi-skilledworkers" and 16.7% for "Electrician". The"Concrete" group followed with an increase of 6.6%, resulting froma rise in the prices of "Concrete Ready Mix/ Normal (neutin 40) /m3/ U. A. E. " by 6.7% and "Concrete Ready Mix / Sulphate Resistance/ m3/ U. A. E. " by 6.5% respectively. In addition, prices of "Wires for Residential Towers"increased by 3.2%, "(UPVC) Pipes"increased by 3.1% and "Wires for apartments"increased by 2.7%. // On the other hand, SCAD has reported a decrease in the prices for "(PVC) Pipes" by 3.2%; Caused by falls in the price of "PVC Pipes / 3 inch/ 6m /U. A. E. " and by 13.7 per cent and the price of "PVC Pipes / 2 inch / 6m /U. A. E" by 7.6%. This was followed by a decrease in the prices for "Steel" by 2.3%, "Transport Equipment" by 2.1% and Wires for Small Building" by 1.6%. Building Materials Prices for February 2012 compared with February 2011 SCAD s report also reviews changes in building material prices during February 2012 compared with February 2011, with the prices for "Employment" recording the highest increase at 23.1%, followed by the prices of "Aggregates and sand" which rose by 21.1% as all items in this group registered priceincreases of between 3.65 and 38.9%. In addition, prices of "Transport Equipment" rose by 14.9% and "Paints" rose by 14.3%. Some other commodity groups showed a decline in average prices during February 2012, compared with February 2011. Prices of "(PVC) Pipes" fell by 15.9%, "Waterproofing products" by 13.0%, "Steel" by 11.1% and "Wires for Small Building" by 10.0%. SCAD s report monitors the prices of 21 groups of building materials SCAD s monthly report of building materials prices report surveys the prices of 21 groups of commodities and services that represent the most important materials used in the construction activity, including cement, aggregate, sand, wood, steel, concrete, cement blocks, in addition to less significant building material groups. SCAD has published this report since 2008. The report data are collected by the Centre s field staff on a monthly basis, in line with the directives of the emirate s leadership for the development of economic sectors and support of their stability in all areas of interest to decision makers, policy planners and researchers in the emirate.
