RPC Superfos has developed new plastic boxes for tinned fish products supplier in Scandinavia, Bornholms as a replacement for the company's existing cans for seafood products.
The new RPC boxes are said to offer benefits of improved logistics, user-friendliness and a shelf life of two years under ambient temperatures.
A series of four types of packaging developed by RPC Superfos has an entirely new oxygen barrier solution, created especially for Bornholms.
According to RPC, the change of packaging is expected to lead to clear benefits for the seafood company as well as for the end-user.
Bornholms managing director Christian Sieverts said the switch to new plastic boxes allows the company to increase the filling speed, minimize packaging material cost and optimize logistics.
"According to our estimates, we will save more than 200,000 km by truck every year, which in part is due to the location of the RPC Superfos Distribution Centre, but also closely linked to the shape of the packaging," Sieverts added.
The boxes have improved stacking facility and demand only up to 30% of the warehouse space that was previously required.
