Bespoke packaging solutions provider Parkside Flexibles (Europe) has been awarded accreditation for its first compostable barrier laminate.
According to the company, the laminate is accredited under EN13432 Industrial Standard which requires at least 90% of the packaging to disintegrate within 12 weeks.
The pack has been accredited under Vincotte and has seen the company collaborate with base material manufacturer Innovia Films to develop the product.
The metalized laminate is flexographically printed, and can be used in various applications where oxygen and moisture barrier are required to offer extended shelf life for the contents.
Parkside claims, the development means that its customers have the option to move away from existing laminate structures that can only be disposed of through either landfill or incineration.
The structure will be printed with the Vincotte OK Compost logo which means through Bio-waste collection it can enter the waste stream.
