Spanish paper and packaging company Saica has announced the opening of its £300m PM11 recycled paper mill in Partington near Manchester, UK.
The mill, which is part of a £0.5bn investment by the company in the UK, is expected to produce 450,000t of recycled containerboard annually from 100% recovered content.
The paper mill complex includes a recovered fiber storage center and energy plant and houses a papermaking machine PM11.
Saica's mill has been in operation since January 2012. Its commissioning, testing and production increased from then.
Presently operating at full capacity, the mill is producing 1,500m per minute of performance papers in the range of 75-135gsm.
Saica president Ramon Alejandro said the company aims to deliver a facility that produces quality performance papers.
"This is a significant investment for SAICA and demonstrates our commitment to both our UK customers and boosting the wider economy," Alejandro said.
