The Venucia Viwa concept has been unveiled at the Shanghai auto show, revealing the fledging Chinese brand’s vision for its second electric production vehicle.
Venucia – the passenger vehicle division of Nissan’s joint venture with Chinese company Dongfeng – says the Viwa concept has been designed in line with China’s new-energy vehicle policy and developed to be “reliable, practical, efficient and accessible”.
The car maker said the production version of the Venucia Viwa concept would be equipped with Nissan’s “most advanced and reliable EV technologies” and would possess a driving range that “meets the daily requirements of Chinese customers”.
Venucia promised the compact Viwa EV would be easy to drive and marketed as a car that “owners can enjoy while contributing to a more sustainable society”.
“Environmental protection is the key to the future success for every car company,” said Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company deputy managing director Ren Young.
“We will continue our efforts to improve fuel economy of our [petrol] engines and promote commercialisation of new-energy vehicles.”
The company released no specifications of its Viwa concept in Shanghai, and at this stage is yet to announce when the production model will reach showrooms.
Venucia launched its first model, the D50 sedan, in China in April 2012. Its first EV, the Nissan Leaf-based E30, was unveiled at the Guangzhou auto show in November.
