China has been the largest and oldest ceramic producer in the world, and the development of China's ceramic industry also presented slowness after the preceding prosperity. However, it was relatively steady on the whole and had achieved nice results. In 2010, industrial structure was optimized and upgraded, and remarkable results were achieved in energy saving & emission reduction. 1. Analysis of economic operation of China's ceramic industry in 2010 (1) Production of domestic ceramics Up to October, the output of above-scale domestic ceramic enterprises across the country had reached 20.398 billion pieces, up 35.91% compared to the same period in the previous year. (Refer to tablet 4) (2) Production of building ceramics Up to October, China's output of wall and floor tiles had reached 6.410 billion m2, and Guangdong again contributed the largest output_1.649 billion m2, accounting for over 1/4 of the total national output.(Refer to Tablet 3) Production of sanitary ceramics From January to October, the output of above-scale sanitary ceramic enterprises across the country had reached 140.08 million pieces. The optimization and upgrading ofindustrial structure was accelerated. Over the last two years, the industry awareness had gradually increased, and great results had been achieved in improving product quality, enriching cultural and artistic contents of products, cultivating and building brands as well as strengthening marketing. In addition, investment had increased year by year in the development of new technology and equipment as well as in production innovation. The overall economic operation of the industry presented a good trend of development. 3. Environmental awareness was strengthened and remarkable results had been achieved in energy saving & emission reduction. In recent years, the environmental awareness of Chin's ceramic enterprises has been gradually enhanced. In 2010, enterprises had continuously increased investment in environmental protection, thus achieving good results. Significant results had been achieved in energy saving & emission reduction, which was highly recognized by the state and competent authorities. In 2011, the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure are to be continued, and the development trend will remain steady. The optimization and upgrading of ceramic industrial structure will the further strengthened by seeking breakthroughs in product quality improvement, brand building and after-service perfection. China will continue to strengthen the supervision over industries featuring high consumption and high pollution, and ceramic enterprises will continue to increase investment in environmental protection. The utilization of new technology and new equipment beneficial to the goal will also be further strengthened, which will be helpful to the further optimization and upgrading of the industry.
