The UK Department of Health's Consultation on Plain Tobacco Packaging Came to an End

The UK Department of Health’s consultation on plain tobacco packaging came to an end, after being, following its extension by a month to let more people to respond as it evoked strong public interest.

As per the proposal, packets are now likely to be in olive green, with information being removed about individual brands from cigarette packets.

Now, they will just feature the name with warnings being conspicuous, and there would be standard packaging across the board, according to packagingnews.co.uk.

Campaigners feel plain packaging would discourage young people from taking up smoking.

This proposal has, however, faced criticism from packaging companies.

Early in 2012, a ban on tobacco displays in large shops was effected. Smaller shops will also have to fall in line by 2015.
