The China Africa Cotton project for building a cotton ginning unit in Maringué district of Mozambique’s Safola province would soon be launched, District Director of the Economic Activities Department Carlos Coimbra has said.
The official informed that having procured the funds required for setting up the said unit, the Chinese investors are now waiting for completion of the economic feasibility study, macauhub.com reported. Establishment of the new facility is likely to shoot up cotton production in the district, considered to be the largest cotton producer of the province. All the cotton produced at the new ginning unit, proposed to be set up near National Road 1 in Maringué district, would be consumed within the province only, the official said.
During the 2011-12 cotton season, Safola district harvested around 9,000 tons of cotton, which earned around 19 million meticals in revenues. The output as well as earnings is higher than previous season’s output of 3,000 tons that fetched around 4 million meticals.
