According to data released by the Korea Iron & Steel Association (Kosa), the country’s exports of hot rolled coils (HRC) totaled 417,800 tons in November, soaring by 23% year on year.
It’s analyzed that the surge in HRC exports was boosted by extra HRC production capacity that Hyundai Steel commissioned at its Dangjin works.
In November, the US was the largest importer of the Korean HRC with 99,500 tons, jumping by 215%; Japan was the second largest one with 71,100 tons, falling by 13% and Vietnam was the third largest one with 63,000 tons, soaring by 46%, all compared to the figures in the same month of 2012.
However, the country’s HRC exports slumped by 20% year on year to 3.93 million tons in the January-October period.
