US spot mixed xylene prices have fallen a total of 11 cents ($33.33/mt) since June 17, last assessed Friday at $3.90/gal ($1,181.70/mt) FOB US Gulf Coast, which sources attributed to bearish demand and a weaker energy complex.
MX prices were pressured by a lower energy complex as July NYMEX RBOB gasoline futures dropped 13.50 cents last week, settling Friday at $2.7617/gal.
MX prices were also impacted by sluggish downstream derivative paraxylene, sources said.
Paraxylene prices have declined $15/mt since July 17, last assessed at $1,400/mt FOB USG. Market participants described the spot paraxylene market as very quiet, with no bids, offers or deals were heard over the week.
No bids, offers or trades were heard as of Monday morning, sources said.
