The Plant Has Been Set up to Provide Solutions

Food packaging and processing company Tetra Pak has announced the opening of its new INR7000m ($125m) packaging materials factory in Chakan, near Pune in India.

The plant, which has a capacity of 8.5 billion packages annually, is equipped with new equipment machinery in a bid to meet the increasing demand for dairy beverages that are carton-packed as well as fruit juices.

According to the Swedish firm, the plant has a total area of 1,80,000m2 and has been set up to provide solutions including packaging and processing across India, South-east Asia and the Middle-East.

A new product development and innovation center has also been established by Tetra Pak, which will house a laboratory, a pilot processing plant as well as a pilot packaging plant in order to develop product formulations.

Power gerenation for the plant will take place through a 100-kVA solar power plant for non-critical power load in offices.
