China's Total Aviation Traffic Rose 9.5% Year on Year in February to 4.86 Billion Mt-km

China's total aviation traffic rose 9.5% year on year in February to 4.86 billion mt-km, according to data from the Civil Aviation Administration of China released Friday.

Mt-km is a measure of air traffic -- the amount of freight, passengers and bags carried -- in metric tons times kilometers traveled.

Total domestic air traffic rose 12.6% in February to 3.51 billion mt-km, while international traffic edged up 2.3% to 1.35 bilion mt-km.

Total aviation cargo traffic plunged 19.5% year on year to 903.54 million mt-km, with domestic cargo traffic falling 21.9% to 309.76 million mt-km.

In contrast, aviation cargo traffic had risen 27.5% year on year in January to 1.33 billion mt-km, with domestic cargo traffic surging 46% to 545.92 million mt-km.

International cargo traffic in February fell 18.2% year on year to 593.77 million mt-km.

China's total passenger traffic grew 20.6% year on year to 45.15 billion passenger-km, with traffic on domestic routes rising 19.7% to 36.62 billion passenger-km. Passenger traffic on international routes rose 24.6% year on year during the month to 8.53 billion passenger-km.

China's apparent demand for jet/kerosene in February totaled 1.44 million mt. This translated into 400,586 b/d and was a 17.4% increase on a daily basis, according to Platts calculations. Domestic output rose 12.6% year on year to 1.87 million mt; imports rose 5.1% to 410,000 mt while exports rose 7.7% to 840,000 mt.
