Second-tier motherboard makers have been forced to hike their prices in the China market as the ongoing probe into possible tax evasions by the China government has pushed up operation costs for suppliers, according to industry sources.
Small-scale operators such as Biostar, Colorful and Onda are expected to lose their market share to first-tier players Asustek Computer, Gigabyte Technology and ASRock due to declining price/performance of their products, said the sources.
China-based brand Colorful has raised the prices of many of its models, while Biostar limited the price hikes to a number of entry-level motherboards, said the sources, adding that Onda has also raised its motherboard prices despite its dwindling shipments.
