Copenhagen Hosting an Experiment to Determine Smart Street Lighting

Copenhagen is hosting an experiment to determine the efficacy of various smart street lighting systems.

The Danish city intends to be the first carbon neutral capital in the world by 2025. With this ambitious target in mind, the city aims to reduce carbon emissions by 20 per cent by 2015.

The suburb of Albertslund, Copenhagen, will see manufacturers and suppliers testing their smart lighting solutions

The experiment, run by the Danish Outdoor Living Lab (DOLL), will see manufacturers and suppliers set up and test their outdoor lighting solutions in the suburb of Albertslund.

There are currently 37 plots with products from various manufacturers and suppliers covering the entire 9.2km of road and pathways in Hersted Industrial Park. The installation will be finished in September 2014.

Explaining the motivation for displaying its lighting products, Peter Olivarious, CEO of Focus Lighting, said, "Living Lab has provided us with the unique opportunity to display our products to the customers. It is possible to compare our products with the competitors, which we consider an advantage. Concurrently, in the Living Lab, it is possible to reach new customers who are not already familiar with our products."
