Officials from AGC Glass Co. North America announced the company has officially restarted the G1 float glass line located at its Greenland manufacturing plant in Hawkins County, Tenn.
The G1 line will serve both the architectural and automotive markets, producing high quality clear and tinted float glass, according to a Jan. 16 company release. AGC has installed new state-of-the-art equipment for environmental controls, improving the air emissions from the manufacturing line to meet more stringent standards and enhance the overall air quality in the region, officials state. An additional 100 jobs have been created as a result of restarting the line.
"The restarted production line marks another important step in our efforts to strengthen the company's operations in North America. AGC is committed and fully intends to succeed here," Mark Ishiko, president and CEO of AGC Glass Co. North America, said in the release.
The G1 line will operate continually for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. A continuous glass ribbon coming from the line each day will stretch more than 13 miles long, according to the release.
AGC Glass Co. North America currently operates four float tanks in three locations: two float lines in Greenland, Tenn.; one line in Richmond, Ky.; and one line in Spring Hill, Kan.
