Honda Motor has introduced a new one-motor hybrid system, Sports Hybrid Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive system, which is optimised for small-sized vehicles.
The new hybrid system comprises of three different Honda Sport Hybrid systems, including one-motor Sport Hybrid Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive, Two-motor Sport Hybrid Intelligent Multi Mode Drive / Plug-in and Three-motor Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling - All Wheel Drive).
Integrating an inline 4-cylinder 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine mated to a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) system with a built-in high-output motor and a Lithium-Ion battery, the one-motor drive unit will improve efficiency by more than 30% compared to a conventional one-motor hybrid system.
Two-motor Sport Hybrid Intelligent Multi Mode Drive / Plug-in will combine a new hybrid engine with two built-in motors and a lock-up clutch, along with a Lithium-Ion battery.
It will optimally switch the operation among the three driving modes, including EV Drive, Engine Drive and Hybrid Drive, depending on driving conditions and the battery charge level.
Honda's two motor hybrid system is also suitable as a plug-in hybrid system, which is scheduled to be introduced to the market in January 2013.
The three-motor Sport Hybrid SH-AWD will integrate with a V-6 engine to deliver an acceleration performance equivalent to V-8 engine and improved fuel efficiency than inline 4-cylinder engine.
It also installs a direct-injected 3.5-liter V-6 engine in the front of the vehicle and combines the engine with a newly-developed 7-speed DCT system that comes with a built-in motor.
In addition, the three motor high output system uses two electric motors installed in the rear to control torque distribution to the right and left rear wheels.
