Mondi Extrusion Coatings has developed an environmental friendly paper bag solution to be run on Form-Fill-Seal (FFS) machines.
SKOG for Food saves up to 70 percent plastic while retaining all the required barrier properties. SKOG for Food will be presented for the first time in North America at PACK EXPO in Las Vegas.
SKOG for Food combines FSC™ certified paper with double-sided coating, giving the bag the required barriers and the right sealing properties needed for FFS machines. In addition, the packaging benefits from paper properties like gas permeability to keep packaged food longer fresh and safe.
No further investments are needed to switch production to use SKOG for Food. It is designed to run on all vertical and horizontal FFS machines, which until then were purely used to run plastic.
“The new liner complies perfectly with our sustainability strategy,” Jan-Willem Kleppers, Managing Director Mondi Extrusion Coatings, explains. “SKOG is a natural product especially designed to fulfill ecological needs while protecting our customers’ goods.”
To become even more sustainable, the bag can also be coated with Mondi’s biodegradable barrier Sustainex. The coating is derived from renewable sources and fully compliant with internationally accepted standards for biodegradability and compostability. It is eligible for organic recovery, energy recovery and material recycling. And of course it is approved for direct food contact.
Together with a European partner who converts the coated paper into window bags the barrier coating assures great protection in- and outside of the bag as well as good sealing properties. “We are pleased to support our customers in making optimal choices”, Patrick Papst, Sales and Marketing Director Mondi Extrusion Coatings, states and concludes, “With SKOG, they can promote and strengthen their own brand in a sustainable way – every day.”
