The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) has reportedly trialled a new all-electric bus which will operate with less noise and emit no pollution.
The first-of-its-kind vehicle is manufactured by China-based lithium-ion batteries maker BYD.
The 60ft bus can accommodate 120 passengers, and has a range of 170 miles.
UTA maintenance administration manager James Baxter was quoted by Deseret News as saying: "We're committed to looking at (compressed natural gas) and advanced fuel technologies to advance air quality.
"We are looking evaluating this (electric bus) technology."
UTA operations vice president Jerry Benson said that the all-electric bus could be used on existing bus rapid transit route in Taylorsville and planned Provo and Davis County areas.
Last year, UTA tested Proterra-built all-electric bus, which was priced at about $825,000.
UTA operates a fleet of more than 600 buses, including 24 compressed natural gas buses and intends to expand its fleet with around 20 additional CNG vehicles next year.
