Macro Installs Nine-Layer Line for Bags Production in Europe

Film and sheet extrusion machinery firm Macro Engineering & Technology (Canada) has established a 1.8m wide line having nine extruders and a nine-layer die design for a European customer.

The line produces various barrier structures to make film and bags.

Capable of running 18-layer structures, the winding system handles film thicknesses ranging from 20um to 300um.

The machine can process various materials including barrier resins such as polyamide, EVOH and PETg.

Macro Engineering & Technology supplies barrier film lines and custom engineered extrusion systemsfor food packaging, medical, and industrial sectors.

The surface winder with zero fold-back roll starts, is capable of auto-cutting and transferring in both directions. It is armed with automatic shaft and roll handling as well as automatic shaft extraction.

The Macro proprietary control system has a 'ReadyRun' option to store and recall recipes, leading to reduction of changeover time. The 'Green Energy' feature leads to optimization of energy consumption during the heat and cool process, with an option to view energy consumption in real-time.

Macro makes blown, cast and biaxially-oriented coextrusion lines for multilayer films up to 11-layers.

The firm provides sheet extrusion lines for specialty applications, in addition to extrusion coating, laminating and foam extrusion lines.

Recently, the company launched a new extrusion line to make polylactic acid (PLA) foam.

The line puts to use tandem extruders to produce foamed PLA sheet between 1.2mm and 5mm thick and up to 1,270mm wide with a foam density of 0.07g/cc (16x expansion ratio). The sheet is capable of being thermoformed into compostable clamshell packaging and trays used for cold food applications.
