According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in October this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased 0.3 percent as compared to September and was down 0.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In September, production had decreased by 0.7 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in October this year fell 1.2 percent month on month, while decreasing by 2.4 percent compared to October 2012. In September, production had decreased by 0.5 percent compared to August, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in October decreased by 0.3 percent month on month and was down 0.7 percent compared to October 2012, while civil engineering output increased by 1.1 percent from September and was down 1.7 percent year on year.
As compared to September, construction output in October increased in Slovenia by 7.6 percent, in the Czech Republic by 7.6 percent and in Romania by four percent, while a decrease of 2.9 percent was registered in Spain, a decline of 2.3 percent was recorded in Slovakia and a decrease of 1.7 percent was seen in Germany.
As compared to October 2012, construction output increased in Slovenia by 27.3 percent, in Hungary by 10.7 percent and in Romania by 7.6 percent, while a decrease of 15.1 percent was registered in Portugal, a decline of 7.9 percent was recorded in the Bulgaria, a decrease of five percent was witnessed in Slovakia and a decline of 4.3 percent was recorded in Poland.
