The government of the Indian state of West Bengal has given approval for construction of an integrated textile park in Belur in the South 24 Paraganas district and a new silk park in the Maldah district, reports The Times of India.
The proposed integrated textile park at Belur will house around 5,000 power looms, and would be set up on a plot of the National Iron and Steel Company. Initially the textile park was supposed to have mega power looms, but the state government decided to accommodate handlooms and dyeing units as well.
The state government is expecting an investment of Rs. 14 billion in the Belur textile park, and the operations in the textile park are expected to begin within 24 months after the construction.
Meanwhile, the silk park in Maldah district, which was proposed in the year 2007, is expected to fetch an investment of Rs. 1 billion, and the Central Government has already sanction Rs. 390 million for its construction.
Operations at the silk park are also estimated to begin within 24 months of construction. The construction work of all the three projects, including the textile park and the silk park is expected to be completed by 2016.
