Softwood Lumber Prices on The German Market Were Held Comparatively Steady

Softwood lumber prices on the German market were held comparatively steady until the end of November. Market players are attributing this development partly to comparatively brisk production and sales of value-added timber-construction products and partly to various sawmilling companies' having already reduced their cutting activity. Businesses have been sticking to a reduced output of lumber in western Germany in particular since the beginning of September. There has been an increase in reports of production adjustments from southern German regions as well in recent weeks. Besides active adjustments to output as a result of the discrepancy between raw-material procurement costs on the one hand and obtainable selling prices on the other, some businesses' log supplies appear to be no longer optimal in the meantime.
