UK-based dairy cooperative and processing firm First Milk has launched its sustainability report which outlines its plans to develop a sustainable supply chain.
In co-operation with Oxford-based Food Animal Initiative(FAI),the program aims to drive economic, environmental and ethical sustainability in the supply chain.
The program focuses on the five following areas:feed for the future;cow and calf;wheels, yields and deals;reduce, renew, recycle;and food for the future, reported Fwi.co.uk.
First Milk CEO Kate Allum said that it is important to lower the farmer's feed bills;improve cow and calf health;and control and reduce waste water and energy.
"Most importantly they deliver an economic benefit to our farmers, either directly on-farm or through maximizing the returns we can pass back to them",added Allum.
