Ahlstrom Has Launched a New Biodegradable Molding Material Ahlstrom Naturemold

Fiber-based materials manufacturer Ahlstrom has launched a new biodegradable molding material Ahlstrom NatureMold, for food packaging applications.

Claimed to combine environmental credentials, product differentiation, and performance all in one package, the product provides various features that benefit food processors and their brands.

According to the Finland-based company, key advantages include heat resistance of up to 220°C/428°F, easy release, better wet strength, and grease resistance.

Ahlstrom's new packaging material offers branding and differentiation properties with the possibility to watermark or dye it with a range of hot food contact approved colors.

The material, which helps to advance sustainability, is produced from renewable resources with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified pulp, and is said to serve as an environmentally friendly alternative to molds and trays that are made from plastic or aluminum.

Ahlstrom Food executive vice president Omar Hoek said, "The Ahlstrom NatureMold(TM) product line has great performance especially because of its grease resistance and easy release."
