Braskem Will Expand Its Domestic Linear Low Density Polyethylene Production Capacity

Brazilian petrochemical company Braskem will expand its domestic linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) production capacity with an investment of about BRL50m ($23m).

With the expansion, the LLDPE production is expected to increase by 120kton, which will be used for the development of Brazil's plastics production chain.

Of the total production, about 100kton will correspond to the Braskem Flexus family, which is used in packaging that requires specific features including increased resistance, gloss, transparency and sealing properties.

As part of the plan, the company will add a resin production line to its facility at Camacari Petrochemical Complex in the state of Bahia to increase the supply of metallocene-based resins to the plastics industry.

The line is set to commence operations in the first half of 2015.

Braskem polyolefins vice-president Luciano Guidolin said, "We are expanding our offering of products in the Braskem Flexus line to support our clients' growth in market segments that demand high-tech resins."
