According to statistics released by the Korea Iron & Steel Association (Kosa), the country’s production of H beam totaled 247,000 tons in January, falling by 15% year on year.
The drop in H-beam production was caused by the factor that the slowdown in construction activity in winter made Hyundai Steel and Dongkuk Steel’s maintenance over the period.
Besides, the government’s energy saving for winter has also caused lower H beam output. In January, Korea’s imports of H beam slumped by 18% year on year to 63,000 tons.
