The acquisition expands Synopsys' applications in both the optical and adjacent photonic markets
Semiconductor company Synopsys has completed the acquisition of RSoft Design Group (RSoft), a provider of photonics design and simulation software.
The combination of Synopsys' imaging and illumination design products with RSoft's photonics design products extend Synopsys' platform to provide a set of optical applications to current customers as well as support new technologies, applications and markets as they emerge, the company said.
RSoft's software is used to design and optimise optical telecommunications components, as well as in the design and simulation of complete optical telecommunication systems and networks.
It can also be used for modeling nano-scale optical structures as well as enable increased optical data storage capacity.
In semiconductor manufacturing, RSoft's software is used to design and optimise nanolithography components to enable faster and lower-power processors.
Synopsys' Silicon Engineering Group senior vice president and general manager Howard Ko said the addition of RSoft's products expands Synopsys' applications in both the optical and adjacent photonic markets.
"RSoft's products also complement our TCAD Sentaurus portfolio by providing a number of capabilities that allow us to extend our offering into other photonic areas such as optical waveguide modeling. This and many other capabilities will create strong synergies with Synopsys technology that will help us enable new opportunities with key customers," said Ko.
