CFIA Has Asked Public Not to Consume Fresh Shelled Peas Sold by Thomas Bros.Farm Market

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency(CFIA)has issued a health hazard alert,asking public not to consume fresh shelled peas sold by Thomas Bros.Farm Market as the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected product,fresh shelled peas,was sold from Thomas Bros.Farm Market located at London,Ontario on 27 June 2012.The packages do not bear a label identifying the store name and other information.

Consumers who have this fresh product in their homes or may have frozen it have been advised not to consume it.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The manufacturer,Thomas Bros.Farm Market,is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace,while the CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled.However,consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may lead to listeriosis,a foodborne illness.Listeriosis can cause high fever,severe headache,neck stiffness and nausea.
