Nissan Leaf Cut to $46, 990 Driveaway in New Pricing Offer

The price of the Nissan Leaf has been cut to$46,990 driveaway for a limited time as part of a three-pronged effort by Nissan Australia to shift more units of its slow-selling electric car.

With a recommended retail price of$51,500,the driveaway offer(which ends on March 31)cuts around$7000-$8000 from the on-road price of the Nissan Leaf. The offer temporarily makes the Leaf the cheapest EV in Australia, undercutting the city-sized Mitsubishi i-MiEV,which is priced from$48,800 before on-road costs.

Customers can also elect to finance the Leaf with a zero per cent per annum comparison rate with no deposit,or opt for a repayment package starting from$499 per month on a 36-month term at 3.0 per cent comparison rate.Nissan is also offering special prices on Leaf for fleet customers.

In total,71 Nissan Leaf EVs have hit the road in Australia in 2012,although sales have slowed in recent months.Just 20 were registered across the country between August and November, including four in October and three last month.

The Nissan Leaf is due for an upgrade in 2013 following the launch of the updated model in Japan last month.

The 2013 Leaf boasts a more compact and environmentally friendly electric powertrain that should see the car's range increase from 170km to 190km,while Nissan says weight reductions and suspension revisions lead to enhanced dynamic performance.
