Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor has unveiled the production-ready Sylphy concept at the ongoing Beijing Auto Show in China.
The new Sylphy for China will be powered by a new 1.8 litre gasoline engine and is mated to an XTRONIC continuously variable transmission (CVT) along with a wider gear ratio, which is expected to increase fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.
According to carmaker, Sylphy's longer stoke, variable valve timing control and new coatings on the valve lifters, aim to reduce friction and inertial losses.
Nissan said that the new car will be manufactured in China by the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture and could also be produced in Japan and sold as Sentra in the US and Pulsar in Australia.
The Chinese-edition Sylphy is expected to go on sale in mid-2012, while the other global markets receiving first shipments between then and 2014.
