US Found Seasonally Adjusted Apparel Prices Fell 0.4% Month-on-month

Apparel retail prices fell for the third consecutive month in November, with infants and toddlers apparel one of the worst hit categories, according to new figures.

The US Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics found seasonally adjusted apparel prices fell 0.4% month-on-month.

Unadjusted prices edged down 1.2% when compared to the prior month, and 0.1% year-on-year, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Unadjusted retail prices fell 1.4% for women and girls apparel, and dropped 1.3% for men's and boys apparel, while rising for infants and toddlers apparel. 

Year-on-year, women and girls apparel retail prices edged down 0.4%, and infants and toddlers apparel dropped 2.8%. Prices for men's and boys apparel grew 0.7%. 

Footwear meanwhile, saw retail prices fall 1% month-on-month in November, as prices for women's and men's shoes declined 2.2% and 0.6% respectively. This outweighed a 1.1% rise in prices for boys and girls footwear.

When compared to November last year, footwear prices edged down 0.2% in November, due to a respective 0.7% and 0.8% drop in prices for women's and men's shoes, overshadowing a 2% increase in prices for boys and girls footwear.
