Federal German Cabinet Passed a Draft Amendment S to The Holzhandels-Sicherungs-Gesetzs

On 31 October 2012, the Federal German cabinet passed a draft amendment s to the Holzhandels-Sicherungs-Gesetzs (HolzSiG – Timber Trading Safeguard Act), which came into force in July 2011. With that amendment, the HolzSiG is supplemented by provisions on the national implementation of the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR). Until now, the act had only regulated national controls of timber imports from countries with which the EU had concluded separate volunatary partnership agreements (VPAs) against illegal timber felling. With the amendment of the HolzSiG now pending, timber sourced from all countries will be dealt with – including timber from all EU states. Source: euwid-wood-products
