Canadian Spot Market Freight Volumes Remained Steady in July

TransCore has reported that Canadian spot market freight volumes remained steady in July, sidestepping the traditionally July slowdown.

The same was recently reported of North American spot market volumes.

Load volumes in July were at the mid-point of the last seven months. The company noted July had two additional shipping days compared to June.

Cross-border postings accounted for 70% of total volumes in July. Cross-border loads destined for Canada were down 9% compared to July 2012, but loads originating in Canada for delivery into the US were up 17% year-over-year.

Intra-Canada load volumes rose 3% y-o-y, and accounted for 24% of total volumes for July.

Equipment postings reached their highest level in the last 10 years in July. Month-over-month equipment postings rose 10% and were 14% above posting levels for the same period last year.

The index is compiled by TransCore Link Logistics, which operates Canada's largest freight-matching database.
