Taiwan-based LED Firms Stand a Chance of Winning Contracts to Supply LED Devices

Taiwan-based LED firms such as Lextar Electronics, Lite-On Technology, Everlight Electronics, Delta Electronics and Bright Led Electronics stand a chance of winning contracts to supply LED devices for China-based partners to make about 18,000 LED lamps for use in platforms, concourses, lobbies, and other public spaces at 16 subway stations in Guangzhou, southern China, according to industry sources. The project will cost around NT$100-200 million (US$3.38-6.77 million). Once the firms capture the project, shipments will begin as soon as second-quarter 2012. Xiamen and Guangzhou were chosen by the China government to be a part of cross straight semiconductor lighting demonstration projects in 2010. The projects include switching 1,000 street lamps to LED lighting and Taiwan-based firms such as Delta and Bright LED are among the chosen firms. 413 street lamps have been switched in phase one. The second phase will begin soon, said industry sources. Source: www.digitimes.com
