Malaysian Steel Industry Official Is Proposing Mergers to The Steel Industry

It’s reported that Malaysian steel industry official is proposing mergers and acquisitions to the steel industry in Malaysia to fight against cheap imports from foreign competition in nearby countries.

The steel consumption in Malaysia was forecasted to augment by between 300,000 tons and 350,000 tons to 8.45 million tons in 2013.

Nevertheless, the production capacity of Malaysian steel mills per annum is only less than 5 million tons.

Currently, there are 150 odd member firms in Malaysian steel industry. In Malaysia, the steel industry was affected by the influx of imported steel products which tend to reduce market prices.
