About 217,500 Tributes SUVs in The US to Be Recalled Due to Sticky Gas Pedals

Mazda Motor is recalling about 217,500 Tributes SUVs in the US from the 2001 to 2006 model years as well as some from 2008 to fix the sticky gas pedals that can lead to unintended acceleration incidents.

All the recalled Tributes SUVs were equipped with the 3-liter, V6 engine and speed control.

According to the automaker, the cruise-control cable can hold up on the engine cover and cause the accelerator to stick if the driver has pushed the gas pedal close to the floor.

The recall comes a day after a similar recall by Ford that involves 485,000 of 2001 to 2004 model year Ford Escape SUVs worldwide to address the same problem.

Ford recalled about 423,634 Escape SUVs in the US and 484,600 worldwide for the problem.

Ford and Mazda had jointly developed the affected Escape and Tribute models.

Mazda said its 2005, 2006 and 2008 used an engine cover for its 3-liter, six-cylinder engine that was similar in design to the 2001 to 2004 model Tributes. As a result, the company also recalled those models.
