Mayr-Melnhof Karton Introduced New Coated Recyclable Cartonboard Grade 'foodboard'

Austria-based packaging solutions provider Mayr-Melnhof Karton (MMK) has introduced new coated recyclable cartonboard grade 'FOODBOARD' for food packaging.

FOODBOARD includes an ecologically sensitive and consumer-friendly barrier concept, which protects food products from unintended substances in the packaging environment.

The new packaging material is claimed to be fully recyclable, bio-degradable and will be made available with FSC and PEFC certifications.

MMK management board member Franz Rappold said, "FOODBOARD is a real breakthrough - an environmentally friendly cartonboard with completely new features which opens up packaging applications we could have never thought of before in the paper based packaging world."

According to the company, the FOODBOARD offers protection from mineral oils, Phtalates, DIPN and Bisphenol-A, while protecting against cross-contamination from outer and transportation packaging, printing inks.

The company plans to launch the new grade from its Austria-based facility by the end of 2014 and hopes to bolster its customer relations.
