Brazil-based Gelnex has announced the launch of a new packaging and shipping program for its gelatin products in a bid to promote sustainability.
The company's new 'pallet-free' shipping system is expected to save weight and energy, besides 40,000 trees in the first year.
The system employs no wood or plastic pallets and does away with the cost and inconvenience of storing and disposing of pallets and needs no special equipment to handle.
As part of the company's sustainable program, its gelatin bags now carry the 'Child-Friendly Company' seal of the Brazil's Abrinq Foundation.
Gelnex US president Felipe Chaluppe said the company will continually innovate in its forest, water, energy and air quality conservation practices to build a sustainable enterprise.
"At the same time we must also make significant contributions to the health, education and well-being of the people in the communities in which we operate -- with a strong emphasis on children," Chaluppe said.
International non-profit foundation Abrinq promotes the rights of children and adolescents in Brazil.
