It installed its new kit at its production facility in Redditch. BASF intends to use the kit for labelling chemical systems and formulations for the construction industry.

Allen Coding's NG4IM is targeted specifically towards chemical, agricultural and hardware manufacturers who require large amounts of information to be applied to packaging/labels.

David Williams, EHSQ/engineering manager at BASF UK, said:? "Our previous printer had been supplied by Allen Coding so when it needed upgrading we went with their recommendation to replace it with an NG4 model, because of its ability to withstand the demands of a dusty, high production environment.

He added:? "Arguably the best feature of this particular thermal coder is its ease of integration on to our packaging line and its user friendly interface."

Suitable for printing fixed and variable text, data and graphics, use-by dates, real time, batch codes, bar codes and much more, the NG4 is installed at BASF's plastic film de-coiling unit, operating at 15 cycles per minute.

Williams explained:? "The new coder produces clean, legible print on to an area 107mm by 90mm, helping to increase the efficiency of our packaging process."

Fitted with an Ethernet card as standard and operated via a PC, touch screen or a:touch, the NG4 also features a 450m ribbon capacity on an easy load cassette, a best-in-class 300dpi thermal print head and intermittent print speeds of up to 500mm per second.

Williams concluded: "Allen Coding is an excellent company to work with from sales and installation right through to after sales service.? I would certainly recommend them and their printing products to other manufacturers."
