Methanol Market Showed Mixed Trend in Asia

In the last week ending on September 6, Methanol market showed mixed trend in Asia, whereas it was stable in US and Europe.

Methanol prices were assessed stable in China in the previous week as there was no movement in the market due to National Day holidays. Methanol prices decreased by 1 to 2% week on week in the first half of September and regained by the same percentage in the second half of the same month. They are assessed as stable in the current month.

In Korea and Japan prices firmed up slightly whereas in SE Asia prices remained unchanged. Methanol prices have declined by around US$ 5 to 10/ton in India since the second half September.

Contract prices posted by Methanex for Europe are € 340/ton (FOB NEW) valid from October 1 to December 31, 2012. For North America, the non-discounted reference prices are US$ 439/ton, valid for the month of October and for Asia Pacific the Asian posted contract prices are US$ 435/ton valid for the current month.
