Turkey's Stainless Flat Steel Imports Rose by 7.5 Percent Compared to The Previous Month

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in November 2012 Turkey's stainless flat steel imports rose by 7.5 percent compared to the previous month and were up 9.25 percent compared to November 2011, amounting to 29,793 metric tons. November is the third consecutive month in which a month-on-month increase was seen in the country's stainless flat steel imports. The value of these imports was $70 million in November, increasing by 8.25 percent as compared to October and down 8.8 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in the first 11 months of 2012, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports amounted to 328,851 metric tons, increasing 2.15 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011. The value of these imports was $850 million, decreasing by 13 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the first 11 months of last year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Taiwan amounted to 78,829 metric tons, increasing by 7.7 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of stainless flat steel imports in the first 11 months of 2012 was South Korea with 41,848 metric tons, down 8.1 percent compared to the same period of 2011. Germany exported 37,279 mt of stainless flat steel to Turkey in the January-November period of the year, rising by 3.5 percent on year-on-year basis.
