Taiwan-based crystalline silicon solar cell makers have been generally in a weak price-negotiating position due to the negative impact of US anti-dumping tariffs, and consequently the industry is expected to be reshuffled in 2015, with struggling makers likely to be acquired, according to industry sources.
Since the US determined preliminary anti-dumping tariffs in late July 2014, China-based PV module makers have drastically reduced orders released to Taiwan-based solar cell makers, and prices have been cut cumulatively by about 30%, the sources said. As a result, there have been 2-3 small Taiwan-based solar cell makers suffering difficulties, making them a target for acquisition or to purchase their production equipment, the sources indicated.
