Australian vegetable canning business Edgell has launched limited edition packaging for some of its most popular products, which features an Australian flag.
Edgell, which is a subsidiary of food manufacturer Simplot Australia, said the packaging was designed to “celebrate summer and all things Australian”. The Australian flag cans will be used on Edgell’s four most popular canned vegetable varieties — Beetroot, Corn, Peas and Chick Peas — and will be available in time for Australia Day.
Simplot Australia is a leading supplier of frozen vegetables, canned vegetables, frozen potatoes, frozen seafood and tomato paste. Simplot’s brands include Edgell, Birds Eye, John West, Leggo’s, Five Tastes, Top Cut, Chiko, I&J, Lean Cuisine and Quorn. Edgell has been growing and canning vegetables in Australia for over 80 years.
Edgell has also developed a website to encourage Australian consumers to use more of its products and “increase their intake of vegetables”. Edgell said it developed the project after research showed that “less than 10 per cent of Australians” were meeting the recommended daily vegetable intake.
The website, called the Edgell +1 Project, collects together recipes that use canned vegetable products. It can be found at www.edgellplusone.com.au.
The Edgell Australian Flag range of canned vegetables is available from major supermarkets.
