In May this year, manganese ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland totaled 157,500 metric tons, increasing by 34.24 percent from 117,325 metric tons in April, but down 28.28 percent compared to the same month of 2013, according to the monthly data released by the Port Hedland Port Authority.
In May, China's was the top destination for manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland, receiving 91,500 mt, up 27.35 percent compared to April, but down 46.29 percent year on year. In May this year, China was followed by Ukraine, which received 66,000 mt of manganese ore.
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group and Atlas Manganese in the manganese ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
